Development of new protein based biomaterials
?
We seek a biochemist, biotechnologist or molecular biologist for graduate studies within a new research program at the Department for Molecular Biology.
Research in the department aims to uncover new fundamental knowledge about biological processes at a molecular level and to develop new biotechnology for research and practical applications. Structural biology, biochemical methods and bioinformatics are used and protein engineering is an important research tool. The department is also responsible for teaching in biochemistry, molecular biology and protein biotechnology.
Duties:?The PhD project concerns development and studies of new protein based and functionalized fibrous materials. The ultimate goal of the overall research programme is to develop new biomaterials for applications that are relevant to for instance the protection of our environment or for a sustainable development. The project will include protein engineering, molecular biology, protein production and purification, studies of protein fibril assembly, and material characterization with biophysical techniques, enzymology and microscopy.

Qualifications
We seek either a chemist with genuine interest in biotechnology, or a molecular biologist with a strong background in chemistry or biotechnology. The applicant is expected to hold a MSc degree in biochemistry, chemical engineering, biotechnology, molecular biology or a related subject. Experience in molecular biology, protein production and purification, protein characterization, enzymology, or spectroscopic or microscopic techniques is of merit. Excellent communication skills orally and in writing in English are required. We put great emphasis on your personal characteristics.
