There were some weight gains, some physical distortions but an enjoyable period.
13/2/12: PJ Animales, Taman Cabaran PutrajayaIt was a Chinese New Year Run and was expected to be a short run with lots of drinks and food. The Animales really know how to enjoy and make fun.The run was a 4km course around the Taman Cabaran on non marked trails, through and round the bushes, getting on the second half on the mountain biking trails that was paved with concrete. Well, I never thought off but was presented with a magnificent view of the Putrajaya lake and bridge with the overtly expensive abode of some high official. The immediate run site snacks after the run was laid before your eyes with a few Dimples strategically placed for consumption while the usual Chinese New Year hme visit snacks and biscuits were being cleared. Beers were also plenty and flowing freely with the freebie distribution noises at the back ground. The circle started with a lion dance with Animales? own ?lion head? and drum! The drummer was Chinese, just to make sure the drumming was a lion dance and not of a funeral beat. The lion dancers were 2 bayees with the ?obstacles? made up of mandarin oranges on 2 bottles of beers. The drumming and lion dancing drew much laughter while when the lion attacked the ?obstacles? was drawing stomach-cramping laughs! The dancers had a better workout than the run! The dinner in a restaurant in Dengkil was awesome with a live oneman band! It was much about the food but the drinks and singings were the main courses. The drinking didn?t end when the singing and dancing that nearly brought down the whole second floor. Ensuing Dimples, Johnnys, Bleus and beers were almost never ending! It was a 6km run with steep hills, humongous climbs and a good home trail run that took me some ?1hr30mins to get back.We parked in front of the temple and the run started with a long walk towards the back on tarmac. A good warm up? Well, the weather was really hot and the sun was really bright with blue skies. Some even sweated heavily before the run!The climbs started after passing the young rubber trees. It was a short one where we got out nto the open on the offtrack junction near ?the hut?. Futher climbing on the tree canopied trail uphill towards the waterfall, the first check had the ?smart runners? fumbling. It was later found that a simple forward and uphill climb has the check broken! It was then the climb started on this side with some steep slopes that were still manageable by many. When reaching a ridge, the second check was easily broken with a walk on the side slope to cross the ?rocks upon rocks? over a concealed river that the real climb began! It was the backhills on the ?highway? but on the different face. It was 45-degree and took some 30mins, like never ending, climb. The ?tree huggers? and ?ground gazers? were all over the hilly trail. Some blamed it on the festive drinking and munching while I more than a handful to blame! We reached the top and a bushy zig-zagging thorny trail led us back onto the ?highway?. By the time when we reached the top of the used-to-be lalang hill, a fire was growing to unbearable heights with the strong breeze. There wasn?t anything that we could do and saw the wind carrying the fire towards another side that we thought would not endanger the back pack. We were later told that some shotgun carrying hunters might have set it off! Luckily, nothing happened to the back pack.11/2/12: HLH4, KesumaLakeIt was about four and a half months since we left and when we got to the run site, there were some many smiling faces welcoming us back. That?s hash! We couldn?t agree more and we got to our hashing mode to meet more friendly parties and enjoying our outing. The evening was really warm but the atmosphere was even hotter! We started among the last as me Mrs was ?putting on her protection screen? to make sure no ?friendly hitchings?. The run started on a usual trail beside the run site onto a small rubber holding before going deeper into the OP. It was so familiar that it felt like a rendevous, passing through the OP hill, crossing a deep ditch, passing under the high tension cables and pylon, back into the OP with soft-leaved grass like plants and the gradient OP uphill climb. All were somewhat so familiar until we were somewhere nowhere in the OP. A tough circular check brought almost everyone together but was finally broken by Cat on the trail by the cemetery. We got on the tarmac for a bit before getting into the OP again. We got to a river and saw a road that someone said was the Broga road! Only then that I realized he was right! It was the road bend just before the end of the 4 lane road.We followed the small river bank, the crossing was hilarious when one has to stand on some rotten tree trunk to jump across. The few were adamant but frightened! What?s the fright? The worse is only wet shoes! The action and attempts were hilarious! We got across and kept on running on an offtrack before coming to a junction where Kelam Kabut thought it would be a check that he followed an offtrack. FunToong was upfront on paper calling while the rest followed. Kelam Kabut would have an easier way if he followed his instinct as the paper trail led us through some bushy-full of holes-muddy-river crossing-fallen tree trunk crossing and a thorny edge climb! We were back on the OP offtracks with Dipstick leading the pack, running like no tomorrow with Big Mouth Monkey. They deserved a check and they got it with a back check. The run back bought the middle pack some closer distance to the runners while the last few OP hill climbs proved to be too much for some. We got to more familiar OP areas and the vast clearcuts before the last hill climb into the small rubber holding. We got out in about 1hr10mins and me Endomondo registered about 7km.9/2/12: PJ Hazarda, Sungai LongThe run that I got was 4.7km; the run that I ran took me some 2hrs25mins.I just got home in time to run with the Hazards as the run site was just a stone throw away. I started just to catch the back fellas while the front pack was heard calling out on the front hills. The few guys I was with, were hoping the hare would not try set a wicked run here. Some have dreaded one joint run here had a few guys back in the dark and quite darn late! Well, we hurriedly gave some effort and met the back pack while the middle pack was heard cursing while climbing a steep rocky slope. The climb kept on and on for another 30mins with some really tricky checks and also with some long back checks. It wasn?t long after we reached the tops that we were tricked with another back check with 2 downhill falsies! It was good to kcuf up the runners for the back pack to catch up but I was on the 2 falsies too! It was almost like reaching to a juncture that the run would come to the home trail but we were caught up in a what look liked a 2 continous falsies on a down and uphill trails while the confusion party started when the back pack waited too long. Finally, giving up after running up and down that same trail looking for the true one, we decided to turn back on paper. Just about on the downhill Wank2 was knocked on the head by a twine that he flung his glasses. The search was no easy task, with dried leaves and loose earth plus the surrounding bushes, the slope and it was getting darker! We tried and as and when we gave up, we found the frame but without the lenses! The we looked again but the owner said no need; as we were ready to leave that spot, I found one lens. What a coincidence! We tried again for the other lens but the dwindling day light had us worried too. ?OK-lah, let?s leave it!? ?Hey, what?s this?? ?Ah! The other lens!? ?Let?s go! And quickly!?We back tracked and met Tiny, that was twice my size and 2 heads higher than me, turning back as well but lost on paper. We grouped up and walked almost to a snail?s pace as we waited for Tiny. He was tired, couldn?t see in the dark even with torch light and furthermore, his worried soul! Eventually, we got out in the dark before 8:30pm with the guys at the runs site welcoming us back with beers, thinking that we needed one cold drink to quench the insatiable thrist!6/2/12: HHH, Bukit SubangIt was a hot day! Real sunny too! It rained heavily for an hour before the run, the road was half flooded and some guy just drove like he was on a GP circuit to make a wave for some to surf! Some did ?surf verbally? and with some ?good words? added in! Well, the weather was ?heaty? with the sauna like feel and even after the run started into the OP, the feel was even worse. The humidity was way higher and the bulb must have been top blown! The first check was just a little into the OP, at the 3 way junction. The guys were a bit chatty and finally the check was broken way forward. There were the few gwailo guests seen chasing the front pack while another gwailo pack was way behind doing some Chinese New Year hustle. There were jokes and exchanges of drinking experiences during the festivities. The run was on and very clearly it was getting a bit more serious. There were the few wicked OP hills just under 3kms with 2 confusing checks while further into it, there were 3 OP hills that were really wicked. One can see from the top of the hill, the hills that one climbed before the other! It was to the tops and to the bottoms for about 3-4kms! The loop that we felt turning back towards the run site was way far from the run site as we were just next to some housing estate in Elmina! The ?what looked like a home trail? was very challenging in the humid and hot weather plus there were more hills to conqueror and we finally ?chanced? upon some familiar trails. That wasn?t easy as well! The hare really had some awesome help in setting this run. I was way too exhausted but had to soldier on till run site. I was with another 2 when we heard the front pack checking round and round, looping without ends that we caught up with another runner that was really confused. We heard the front pack calling on top of an opposite hill while we tried to escape the climb and followed a lower offtracks that would bring us about to meet the runners. It seemed that we were too smart and we lost them into the hilltops! We had a real short discussion and decided to follow my direction sense. We were running up an offtrack and climbed an OP hill before we ascended to another offtrack that brought us to meet the runners! We then saw the run but it was like some another 2kms away! The paper kept on the offtrack and on the last hill before getting back to the run site. The last hill climbs caused me some ?stiff? moments when my left and right calves were playing cramps while me left hamstring threaten to do the same. We finally got out and me watch registered 1hr50mins on a 13km run.5/2/12: SH4, Taman Agrotek Batu 14 Hulu LangatThe Chinese New Year celebrations were drawing to an end for this year. It was expected to be a long or maybe a difficult run, the idea was to sweat it all out ? the toxins that were consumed and digested. There were more than a few that have gained some weight during the festive drinking and eating! The run started with a walk towards the end of the tarmac and after crossing the fence on the side, we headed on deeper on the path till we cross the steel bridge. The bridge was over grown with creepers and bushes started to take over, it was that long since the last hash ran here. The expected bushy trail uphill was to train on more sweat for a start and the hilltop check was a good one to let the back pack get closer. A good check with cleverly hidden footprints and paths got the runner all over the hill. I expected it to be a downhill and true enough, the call was just a short back track and the pack was zooming past with a few joining the papers. It was more to come after we crossed the creek at the foothills, a short steep climb followed with another humongous long steep climb! It was not an easy side of the mountain; many were seen taking breaks on after the other. I was not spared and me Mrs was way way behind. Another 20mins later we were on the top, windy refreshing air brought cool relieve. Another difficult check at the top had the runner working over time and after a good 10mins or so, it was hidden by a few fallen trees and overgrown paths! It was not what it seems, expecting on a home trail ? we were led deeper into the hills and another climb! We scooted along and endured the torture just to see ourselves enjoying the sweat after the long downhill heading on the run site direction. After being bashed about by the high weed like growths, we got out to an abandoned orchard. With some more bashing, we ended up on a path that took us out on to the familiar trail ? the up and down offtracks by the high tension pylons. The last bit was running, though tired to death; we kept on with a slow pace till run site! A fantastic short 4.8km run with steep hilly climbs, I ended up back after 1hr40mins.Source: http://harenohair.blogspot.com/2012/02/post-chinese-new-year-runs.html
